Domaine Moreau-Naudet - Petit Chablis 2019
We have been working with Domaine Moreau-Naudet while living in Brooklyn, but sadly missed the wines on the Dutch market. An e-mail to Virginie (the female winemaker), her Dutch agent, another importer and their liaison sorted result: we can now offer almost exclusively the beautiful Chablis wines of Moreau-Naudet.
Since her husband and winemaker sadly passed away at young age not too long ago, Virginie was tasked with a tough task: taking over both the winery and the winemaker. Luckily Virginie was always involved with the winery and turns out to be hugely talented too, true to the style of Moreau-Naudet these are beautiful, rich and mineral Chablis wines. With some help and consultation of the dear family friend Vincent Dauvissat, whose wines have always been a source of inspiration for Moreau-Naudet.
From completely organic vineyards, these wines are pressed and then fermented on indigenous yeasts and depending on the cuvée either aged in stainless steel, neutral oak barrels or with a touch of new oak. The Petit Chablis spends the spontaneous fermentation and aging period in stainless steel, making this the only cuvée of Moreau-Naudet that doesn't see oak. The use of stainless steel retains the beautiful freshness of a Petit Chablis that really benefits from the extraordinary 2019 vintage: warm, round but at the same time with a beautiful, lingering acidity. There's the richness of the Chardonnay from a warm vintage, blended perfectly with fresh acidity and a tension which grabs your attention.
