Jean Foillard - Athanor 2015
The craziest Beaujolais we've had by our favorite winemaker Jean Foillard. 2015 was one of the first of a succession of very warm vintages. During the 2015 vintage Jean Foillard was perplexed by the ripeness of one warmer part of the famous Côte de Py vineyard and decided to bottle this wine separately and name is Athanor, after a mythical alchemist' furnace.
A whopping 16% alcohol, this is more like a wine from the Northern Rhône than a typical Beaujolais. The last one we tried, in early 2021, was still wáy too young, this is definitely a wine with an almost infinite aging potential. We would recommend: cellar until at least 2025. Then you will have a wine of pure beauty.
