Envinate - Lousas Camino Novo 2019
Camino Novo is a blend of 85% Mencía and 15% Alicante Bouschet from 70 year-old vines in a south-east facing single parcel located in Amandi, at 430 meters elevation. The grapes are foot-stomped and fermented with whole-clusters in a small open vat, with daily pigeage.
The wine is then aged for 12 months in 500-litre neutral French oak barrels. At bottling a touch of SO2 is added, but there is no fining or filtration.
Tiny quantities are made.
Like the other Lousas wines, it is marked by extreme purity, lifted aromatics and delicious savouriness.
Initial tightness gives way an ethereal, very focused wine, with great mineral depth. There are exotic floral notes, herbs and a delicious, mouth-feel that makes this Mencía wine so intriguing.
The 2019 vintage of this wine was awarded 97 points by Luis Gutierrez for Robert Parker.
