Jonas Dostert is one of the young guns on the German wine scene, located in an unknown wine area called the Obermosel, close to the border with Luxembourg and about a 150 km from the better known Mosel area. The wines he creates are unreal and in a time of only dire stories about low yields and rotten harvests, Jonas Dostert is slowly taking over his father's domaine and creating a little more wine each vintage..

This is 100% Elbling, a rare and unrightfully unknown grape variety that is the original white grape of the Mosel and supposedly one of the parents of Riesling. But the way Dostert crafts them, they are more reminiscent from a crazy clone of colder-climate Burgundian Aligoté than the Riesling style that other winemakers try to force their Elblings. Jonas trained at the biodynamic powerhouse LeFlaive in Burgundy and his wines are all raised in used Leflaive barrels, giving the wine a mild creaminess that is uncommon in Germany. At the same time, this colder area give the wines a wild acidity and a long finish of lingering citrus fruit.
