Maison Stephan is one of the most talked about domaines from the Northern Rhone at the moment. The winemaker, Jean-Michel Stephan, is a former student of Jules Chauvet, the godfather of natural wine from Beaujolais. Who taught the greats from Beaujolais, such as Lapierre, Foillard, Breton and others, about the possibility of natural winemaking without added sulfur.

40% Syrah, 40% Serine and 20% Viognier from very, very old vines, dating back to 1896 on terraces of granite and gneiss. Ripened in big barrels for 24 months and bottled without added sulfur. Still, don't fear the wine to be unstable, Jean-Michel recommends decanting the wine and says it is completely stable for at least three days. This is a pure and deep expression of its terroir, with beautiful acidity and the potential to ripen for well over a decade.
