Alex Saltaren - Labeja 2021 Riesling

What a great new find. We visited Alex earlier 2024 and were very, very impressed by his passion, dedication and precision. Alex came from Colombia, through Argentina, to Germany for both wine and love. He now works fulltime as the right hand of one of our favorite Rheingau winemakers: Peter Jakob Kuhn.

This is a 100% Riesling of great, great precision. To set expectations, we think the label makes this seem like more of a funky, natural wine than you will find in the glass. Yes, the winemaking is low intervention and the viticulture organic, but the style of the wine is more stern, serious. Also very impressive. A wine that can age for years, but offers immediate pleasure as well. Alex Saltaren only makes 4 to 5 barrels of wine per year so far, so this is a very rare wine of Germany's bright stars for the future.
